Plagiarism
What is Plagiarism?
The Van Dale dictionary provides the following definition for plagiarism: “het overnemen van andermans werk en dat laten doorgaan voor eigen werk” (The practice of taking someone else’s work or ideas and passing them off as one’s own.)
Therefore, plagiarism may include utilising someone else’s text in one’s own text without thereby making itclear that the text has been taken from another source, including the details of the author and the originalpublication in question. However, utilising text and/or ideas from someone else without including the correctmanner of referencing may also be viewed as plagiarism. In addition, putting the content of someone else’swork into one’s own words (paraphrasing) may also be considered fraudulent. In all cases such as the above – mentioned examples, there may be a question of plagiarism.
